We were walking around the zoo yesterday, such a beautiful day! And since we opted for the zoo instead of doing our school work, there were several signs that I asked Anna to read. When I saw this one, I knew that she would be able to do most of the words on her own and so we stopped.
“Only if we understand, can we care. Only if we can, will we help. Only is we help, shall they be saved.” Jane Goodall
Well, we read it together and then talked about how we must understand what is going on in nature in order to save wildlife. But after we walked away, the quote resonated with me in a whole different way as I thought of something else that needs ‘saved’ per se… and that is motherhood.
As mothers, we often times get lost in all of the little things, the laundry, all the kids activities, the dishes, the constant needs of our children and we lose sight of who we really are.
We understand why we are doing all of these things, but we don’t necessarily experience joy as we are doing them.
We check the boxes of life and go through the motions.
But shouldn’t we be enjoying life?
Yes, but we most likely are not… and I say that because I have been there…
See, I understand what you are going through because there have been many times in my life where I have felt like I am just checking the boxes and getting things done but not really enjoying them.
I am grateful to now have a toolbox of resources that I can pull from when I am having a rough day to be able to balance myself out and get to a good point again so that I can enjoy motherhood.
In order to ‘save’ us as mothers we must have someone who cares about us and who can help us and who understands what we are going through.
And I am excited to start sharing some of the tools that I use with you all over the next few weeks. These tools may seem very simple but when implemented all together can be life changing! They can bring JOY back into your life!
